*Most students got it done in class, but check it over.  We're working today with quadrilaterals, parallelograms, rhombuses, squares, rectangles, and trapezoids.

*Mini quiz tomorrow...Unit Test next Wednesday.

2.  Blizzard Year Calendars are due Thursday...most are getting it done in class, but check with your students.

3.  Writing:  We're writing a movie review of Where The Red Fern Grows.  Ask your kids what they're perspective was and how their review is going.

**Survivor Challenge this Friday.  We'll leave Peach about 9:15am and head to Pot. Park, then return around 2:30pm for the end of the day.

**Bring Water Bottles, and if sunny...sunscreen/hats.

Here is the homework and information for a Monday night:

1.  Math:  all group...pages 175 and 176 due for WEDNESDAY!

*Just kicking off our unit 8 (Geometry)
*This is a heavy VOCABULARY unit, the kids will be working with that Vocab on 3 fronts:

1.  A green sheet with definitions and drawings.
2.  The hard cover books has not gone home much, but the glossary and unit pages are super helpful!
3.  The kids started a Keynote project today in which they are taking photos of the geometry words in action on our playground.  They are then building a presentation on their ipads.

*Math will only have lessons this week Wednesday and Friday.  We'll give them some breaks due to M-stepping Tuesday and Thursday

2.  Language Arts (Reading and Writing)

New 10 word list for Blizzard Year this week.

*WOW, the kids did great last week.  Rolling with a similar concept this week.  I need the kids to create the definitions and work on the spelling of these key words from our text.

*I also am asking them to create a drawing on the back the incorporates all 10 words visually.  Should be interesting.

M-STEP Schedule for May 9-13

Tuesday:  9-10:30am  (English/Language Arts)

1.  No new math tonight.

Overall great tests from Unit 7, but I need to get them in the grade book yet, so they will go home tomorrow night.

2.  Writing:  We began a revision project today.  We're taking our personal narrative stories from the beginning of the year and showing what we can do with our new writing skills now in May!

3.  Reading:  We continue to work through A Blizzard Year together.  We also are creating Month Journal Writings in class.  These will be due in 2 weeks.  Most of this will be done in class.

*Don't forget to study our 10 words for spelling and definitions.  Test on Friday.

*Trip to White Pines Friday from 10-2 approximately.

Here is the homework for a Monday night:

1.  Blizzard Year:  Spelling/Vocabulary Word List

*No more words their way, but I'm going to use the time to work with our kids building vocabulary and still challenging out good spelling skills.  We have a list of 10 great words from the current books we're working on as a class, A Blizzard Year.

*Friday students will get a mixture of words to spell and words to define from this list.   I'd break it up this week and study 3 words tonight, tomorrow, and 2 the next two nights.

2.  No new math...students did a great job Test over Unit 7 today.  Tests should be done and ready to go home Wednesday at the latest.

***Don't forget about our trip to White Pines this week Friday.  We leave around 10:30am and return to Peach by 2:00pm

***Skoops tonight that will support our Peach Plains PTA

***Friday, Drama Club for those who want to help with editing and revising the videos.

***Drama Club picture orders and $$$ due this Friday, and the picture is next MOnday!

Mango and Papaya:  pages 169 and 170

Kiwi:  only 169

Today we are working on writing mixed numbers and improper fractions as decimals.

For example 2 1/10 would be written as 2.1

You might have an improper fractions such as 11/10.  You simply could divide numerator and denominator like we did in the last unit to get 1 and 1/10, then write it as 1.1

***Unit 7 test will be next Monday, May 2 for all groups!

2.  Social Studies:

Kids hopefully brought home a blank copy or their practice test from last Wednesday to study.

Here is the homework for a Monday night:

1.  Math:  JUST page 138 for ALL groups

*Tricky lesson today that I introduced to the kids.  Friday we were working on converting between Mixed Numbers and Improper Fractions, and show how they can be EQUIVALENT (you know...equal).

3 and 1/2 (mixed number) is the same as 7/2 (seven-halves)

Today we started talking about subtracting and adding MIXED numbers and borrowing and carrying with those.  We'll get more practice tomorrow, but they weren't ready to be independent today, so I help back on the homework.  Get ready to ask your kids about it tonight though.

2.  Reading:  BIG Westing Game week!

Wednesday:  Party/Test, Packet is due, and Quiz #3 is due!
*Books need to be turned in that day as well.

I'm back!!!  Yikes, first cold of the year hit on Thursday on the Snow Day and I needed a long weekend to recover, but back and better than ever!

Here is the work for a Monday night:

1.  Reading:  Big week for Westing Game...Party is Friday!
*DOn't forget this is really a test!  Directions are on the purple party invitation I sent out as well as a grading rubric on the back.

*The 3rd Quiz will be handed out later this week.  Probably due next Monday.
*Also, the Westing Game Packet needs to be completed and turned in next Monday.

2.  Writing:  We're working on our Nonfiction Project on Keynote.  They should be ready to go to share at conference time.  We're doing obscure sports!  Ask your kids what their sports are.

3.  Math:

Welcome to the new Unit 6:  Fractions

Great kick off today looking at Unit Fractions (remember that is any fraction with a 1 in the top number, numerator, examples would be 1/2, 1/4, 1/10)

Sorry about not doing Snow Day project.  We lost connectivity in Hamilton yesterday...WAY more snow than you got up here.

Here is the work for a Thursday night:

*Valentine's Party tomorrow!  2:30-3:30pm  All are welcome!  Couple good parent involved activities!

1.  No new math.  We did our re-tests of Unit 4 today, they went well.

2.  Reading and Writing:  We just wrapped up our units and will begin working with NONFICTION in both sections starting on Monday.

Here is the homework and information for a Monday in Room 21,

1.  Math:

*Just started the new unit today (but only got 1/2 the lesson in due to good questions off the Unit 4 test).  The homework for all groups is pages 113 and 114 in the NEW H and R book.  (Don't do 9-14, we'll cover those in class tomorrow!)

*Unit 4 tests need to go home and be returned signed by parents/guardians!  Good tests.  Lots of good scores.  We learned from our mistakes.  Re-tests will take place this week Wednesday!

2.  Reading:  Westing Game Quiz #1 is due this week Thursday!  Complete sentences, and well thought out answers.  Use your book and packet to help you out!

3.  Social Studies:

*Wednesday...practice Southeast regions test
*Thursday...Southeast Map test
*Monday, Feb. 15 Unit 5 Test

1.  Science:  17 vocab cards are due tomorrow!

2.  Social Studies:  Southeast map test next week Thursday, but...we're taking a practice test in our class tomorrow!  $20 on the line, might help to study tonight.

3.  Math:  nothing new tonight.

*We're wrapping up Unit 4.  Test are just done, but students won't get them back till Monday.
*We start the new Unit 5 Monday (Measurement)
*We'll also have a brand NEW H and R book, you may recycle the old one.

4.  Our Final Literary Essay drafts are due tomorrow (Friday).  Some students are taking their rough drafts home tonight to finish them up , so all they need to do is type the final draft Friday.

*One more week off of Words Their Way.  We're rearranging some Spelling Groups...truly, we are back at it next Monday.

1.  Math:  CHANGE TEST DATE....

*All groups will take their tests for Unit 4 Wednesday  (not tomorrow)
*No new homework.  We're going to work on building some equations for more practice in class tomorrow

2.  Writing:  Final Literary Essays will be worked on this week.
*The story is The Stray.  It's OK if students want to take the story home and ask you for some good Thesis Statement ideas.

3.  Reading:  The Westing Game is kicking into full swing.  Students are reading and taking notes.  Look for the 1st quiz NEXT week.

4.  Social Studies:  we're in the Southeast Region, but no state and capital quiz till next week.

Brand new Math Unit today.  We began some simple Algebra.

For the most part we are simply looking at finding the missing part.  There are a bunch of practice problems on page 89.  Most of them are pretty simple, but a couple could cause confusion.  Give your best effort on them, and come ready to ask questions tomorrow!

We're excited to try something completely new!


*Just a quick update about the INFORMANCE on Thursday for Music.  Our time is actually 9:20am till 9:45 am if you'd like to come to the gym.  Sorry, I had told you 9:00am, but it's 9:20am for sure!!!

We're back!  Man, it was good to get rolling again.

Wow!!!  Your kids did a TON of reading over break, and a bunch of kids got caught up.  In fact, congrats to Emma Radley as our FIRST to qualify for the 4th Grade Reading Celebration this Spring!

Homework tonight:

1.  Math:  we're wrapping up unit 3.  Re-tests over the division unit will take place Wednesday.  Some of your kids may need to do some studying and re-working some old H and R pages to get themselves ready.

*No new homework till Thursday when we start Unit 4

2.  Science:  Test THIS Friday
*Magnetism and Electricity Unit
*Open notes, and Mrs. Braymers vocab cards will be visible around the room, but students should be working to study a LITTLE each of the next 4 nights!

*8 vocab cards are due Friday as well!

3.  Social Studies:  Northeast Region test NEXT Friday (Jan. 15)
*practice test next Wed with Mr. K for $$$$

4.  Reading:  Charlotte Doyle Projects are due next Friday, January 15.
