Here is the homework for a Monday night:

1.  Math:  16 problem long division page.  Here is some video help if you need it!

2.  Purple Parent Note about the upcoming Klanderman Winter Auction on Friday, December 18!

3.  Words Their Way...new sorts go home tonight, test Friday.

4.  New World Changer from Mr. K....great female painter...desert southwest...painted deserts and sunsets...first name is the name of a U.S. state.

***Reading logs are back ON for this week.  I'm also having the kids fill out a new UPDATE for you on their reading goals NEXT week Wednesday, Dec. 9.

Here is the new homework for a Monday night:

*Don't forget...tomorrow (Tuesday) is the last day of school for this week.  Happy Thanksgiving one and all.

*Also, a reminder that our dear friend Lydia Carefelle is leaving us and moving to a new school Monday.  She would like to provide a little lunch time pizza for the class tomorrow, so plan on that at Lunch time Tuesday.  WE'LL MISS YOU LYDIA!!

1.  Math:  Unit 3 Division Start!

pages 67 and 68 tonight due for Tuesday

We're beginning with simple 2 digit, by 1-digit division, with a remainder.

Remember we're simply using our multiplication tables to try to find a product that will get us CLOSE to the DIVIDEND without going OVER!

2.  NO WTW this week (Spelling)

3.  No Reading Logs due next Monday, but READ and grab some projects for over the long WEEKEND!!!

HEre is the homework for a Thursday night:

1.  Math:  tests from Unit 2 were returned and we went over them today.

*Students who had an 18-21 will have a chance to retest tomorrow.

*student who received a score lower (no worries) will get some reteaching, then have a chance to retest later in December.

*No new homework tonight, just check the test over and sign it, return it to us tomorrow!

2.  Words Their Way:  Test tomorrow!

3.  Social Studies test also goes home tonight, please sign and return tomorrow!

Greetings one and all,

Here is the homework for a Wednesday night:

1.  Math:  The kids did a great job on their 5 question 2-digit by 2-digit quiz today!!!!!  Even if they got a couple wrong, they quickly found their mistakes.

*We're completely on the traditional method now.

Today's lesson was actually an even easier concept of using numbers in the thousands place and multiplying them by one digit.  In this case it's simply an aspect of moving the multiplication along and carrying correctly.

Homework was 59 and 60 ALL of it for Thursday.

*Tried to publish a video here.  Didn't work.  Stay tuned for future efforts!

2.  Social Studies Test will once again be on Monday, Nov. 16

*Study your vocabulary words tonight!

3.  Words their Way test are Friday again.  You should be studying a little each night.

*Fun Friday...PJ day!!!!  Please wear clean pajamas!

Here is the homework for a Tuesday night:

1.  Math:  pages 57 and 58

*Ignore the directions...I want JUST PRACTICE WITH TRADITIONAL METHOD!!!
*You even can ignore the estimations, but they're great for double checking your work.
*Different groups have different amounts of work as well.  Please check with your son/daughter and don't be surprised if they tell you they get to skip a few problems...it's OK.

All groups...please save the stretch your thinking on page 58 for a class warm-up on Wednesday.

Mini Quiz tomorrow!!!  I really want to push the kids to use the Traditional Method, it will be the simplest form going forward.

Unit 2 Test NEXT Wednesday, November 18.

2.  Social Studies Test over Chapter 2 of the book will be next Monday.
*Don't forget our new study techniques I stressed to parents at Conferences
Vocabulary words, pictures, and captions!!!

3.  Writing:  We've moved to Persuasive Essays/Letters.
Ask your kids what their new topic is.

*Remember Reading Logs will once again be due next Monday.  Get those 150 minutes in!

*Square One Art Orders are due Monday, November 16

Greetings one and all,

Here we are back from a great week of conferences.  Thanks truly to all of you for a fun and really enlightening couple nights of conversation.  You all were wonderful!

Here is the work for a Monday night:

1.  Math:

*pages 55 and 56

Great practice for all groups.

2 digit by 2 digit multiplication.  We're really pushing the Traditional/Old School method that we all learned while growing up.

Please also note that even though the directions occasionally say to use some other method...I want the kids practicing with this traditional method from here on out!!!

Help, if you need to...but really we're just going to continue to practice over the next few days.  Really, no new twists or turns ahead, just review before NEXT week Wednesday's test (Nov. 18)

Greetings one and all,

Here is the news and homework for a Monday night:

1.  Math:  All groups pages 51 and 52, but....

Mango and Papaya:  These groups are experimenting with a new technique with 2 digit by 2 digit multiplication called the Area Model Method.  Looks something like this:



Once we have found products for these 4 problems, we take them and simply add them together for the answer to our larger 25 x 42 problem.

Kiwis:  We simply started right into the traditional/"old School" method that all of us learned.

*Unit 2 Math test will be Wednesday, November 18

Reading:  No worries on Reading logs for this week.  Just enjoy reading on your own and work on some projects over the Conference break.

*Make sure you check your conference times.  Looking forward to seeing you all either Tuesday night, Wednesday, or Thursday afternoon.
